OK Folks,

There seems to be many different designs of the humble capo on the market these days. I just bought another Shubb original, they are simple and they work quite well, however I have seen some pretty flash look'in units out there.

Like this one which retails around $100.00

And then there is one of these for just a little bit less.

Both seem a bit over the top price wise but what say you, are you a good ol Shubby guy like me or do you have another favourite?

Your input most welcome.

Cheers

Kim

i own both a kyser and a shubb. for sake of keeping the guitar in tune i prefer the shubb by a long shot. for sake of the convenience of clamping the thing on the head stock i prefer the kyser.
that doesn't outweigh my love for the shubb. i'd go with that any day.
i also own a third hand but only seem to pull it out when the songwriting well is nearly dry.

I too own a kyser and a shubb. The kyser gets used the most as it takes seconds to put on and like phil, I like to just clip it on the headstock when not in use.

This is what I use. $6.59

Works fine for me.

I use a Shub on my banjo, though.

Now Ron,

Everyone knows that those things are only for people who play well, if I can't have a flash look'in capo hang'in off my git then what the heck have I got to impress the audience with? Like my Dad use to say, "if you can't baffle them with brilliance, dazzle them with style"

Cheers

I don't play well, I'm just not in a hurry to put it on or take it off. My dad used to use a pencil with a rubber band to hold it on. Not very purdy, but it worked.

I use the Jim Dunlop type same as Ron, it does everything I want from a capo, simply and elegantly, with the minimum of ugly metal clamped round the neck. All my others have gone in the bin. I capo quite a bit as I play a lot in DADGad, and other altered tunings. The lack of bulk, in the Dunlop, makes some of the more awkward 1st position fingering easier.

The G7 seems to do the job for me.
It's easy to remove and apply with one hand. There arn't too many capo's that have that ability. Yes they are a bit heavy.

Thanks, walter

I use an Elliott. Don't have a photo of it, but it's nice. Looks a lot like one of those Paige capos though.

Kyser and the Kyser "short cut" gets used a lot. Short cut only capoes the a,d,g & b strings, leaving low e, b, and high e open. You get some great open chord feel with it. It's being used a lot in contemporary Christian music. So I use it a lot. Depending on what key we're in, I often use a full capo and short cut in combination

Phil Elliot made mine... great capo. It's a cross between the old McKinney and the Elliot. Pricey, but absolutely worth it.

I'm a Shubb guy too. I used to use Kyser, but then had one slip as I was taking it off and it nicked the side of my guitar's neck...

A lot of people don't know this, but my middle initial is C and it stands
for capos, as in plural! I quite often use two capos on a single song.

I used to be a Kyser man, mainly for convenience but once I had to play
with other guitarists I found they pulled me ever so slightly sharp and out
of tune. I switched to the Schubb about a year ago. I currently have on
hand 1 partial, 2 standard, 1 deluxe and 1 12 string capo.

I use a Dunlop capo. An interesting historical note is that the Dunlop and Kyser capo patents are actually two designs by the same guy who originally came up with the 'trigger' capo. He licensed one design to each company.

Is it this one

or did you get one custom made from Phil Elliot? I have been curious about these since I read that Tony Rice has used an old original McKinney for years; they must be good!

I love the G7's! Don't find them too heavy and its a breeze to use! Best one in my opinion!

I got mine custom made by Phil... I'll try to take a picture tomorrow, but it's got the clasp of the McKinney combined with the "saddle" style piece for the back of the neck of the Elliot design. Had my name engraved on it too... :-) Absolutely worth the money. Tony's was custom made for him by McKinney and Phil's are every bit as good as the original.
